Leaving Montepulciano

Kathy here- Woke up early this morning, our last in Montepulciano. The sunrise begins as early as 5am, and watching it come up over the hills outlining the bell towers and various rooflines, with the mountains in the background is amazing. It's been so great to have a home base this week. It's given us some breathing room to get into a travel groove, not easy with three very different people, energies and daily patterns, not to mention agendas! And we have loved relaxing into the flow of daily life here, getting to know by sight or conversation some of the local people. Cafe doppio at the bottom of the steep stairs to the Corso, gelato at night while walking the town after dinner, bumping into our hosts Elena and Domenic on market day and walking back up the hill with them; it's given us a slice of Italian life, for sure my favorite way to travel. We must thank our friends Michael &Annette for all the suggestions and inspiration, especially for this leg of the trip, it has really set us up well for the next couple of weeks of travel. We've only scratched the surface of Tuscany, but we've scratched it deep!
We've been composing the blog entries on the iPad which has worked really well, since we can do it anywhere. However, we can only load it onto the blog when we find wireless, so we'll see how well we do with that for the rest of the trip. It's going to be a great journal for us when we get back, especially once we have added photos.

A couple of hours later...bags are packed and in the car. We've had a final coffee at Caffe Poliziano, and a lovely goodbye with the whole Bracci family (our fantastic hosts).
On to the A1 Autostrada, Firenze here we come!
Ciao!
